Frequently Asked Questions 

 

  • To get married do we need a licence? NO. But you must complete a Notice of Intended Marriage form which I (as your Celebrant) will provide.
  • Do we need a witness when signing anything? YES. You will need two witnesses who are over the age of (18) years.
  • Do I have to take my husband's name when married? NO. There is no law to make you change your name once you have married. The choice is                                                                                              entirely up to you.
  • Do you register our marriage for us? YES. I register all marriages online shortly after the ceremony.
  • Do we need to have our Birth Certificates? YES, or your Passport. Also if you have been divorced, widow/er you must provide the documents so                                                                            they can be recorded.
  • Can we get married anywhere in Australia? YES. I am authorised to marry couples anywhere in Australia.
  • Are we allowed to arrange our wedding by email or post? YES. Once you have made contact with me, we can then complete all the necessary                                                                                                       documents by email or post.
  • What names must we use when filling in the (NOIM) form? Your names must be exactly as they are on your Birth Certificates or your Passport.
  • Can our witnesses be part of our own family? YES. As long as they are over the age of (18) years.
  • Will you provide us with a Presentation Certificate on the day? YES. The Presentation Certificate is yours free and will be presented to you at                                                                                                                the end of the ceremony.
  • Will our marriage be accepted world-wide? YES. Though some countries do require an Apostille Stamp. Check with your Embassy.
  • How much can we tailor our own ceremony to suit our needs? There's only a couple of elements that's legally required by law to be in a                                                                                                                          wedding ceremony, the rest can then be designed by the couple as they wish.
  • Do you supply a PA system and does it play music? YES. My PA system has a built in CD player and tape-deck, I also supply a cordless                                                                                                        microphone. All runs on 8 hours of battery.
  • When does the (NOIM) form need to be signed, witnessed and given to the Celebrant? No later than (1) month and (1) day prior to the                                                                                                                                                                  ceremony.
  • Can you help me to apply for a fiance visa? YES. Once you have completed the (NOIM) form and booked the date for your ceremony, I will then                                                                               write a letter of support to the Department of Immigration.   • Can I be Given-Away or Presented by a person who is not a member of my own family? YES.
  •  Can we write our own wedding ceremony? YES. I do encourage this but only as long as it complies with the Marriage Act 1961.
  • Are we allowed to incorporate symbols and readings from our religious faith as well as our culture? YES. I always encourage this.
  • Can our family and friends offer readings and poems in our ceremony? YES. I do encourage couples to include their family and friends by                                                                                                                                     participating in ceremonies.
